Cardinal Rules

Cardinal Rules

PoCUS has a way to "charm" the novice and experts to be more confident than they should be.  Perhaps it is as per the old axiom, "Seeing is believing".    However, sight and interpretation can be misinformed, misjudged, or biased.  Keep in mind the following two cardial rules whenever you are employing PoCUS:

Cardinal Rule One:  "It is all HOCUS POCUS unless you FOCUS on this LOCUS"

Do not skip steps, and do not move on to the next stage unless the result from the current stage is satisfactory.

Cardinal Rule Two:  "PoCUS for MD, not MD for PoCUS"

PoCUS has rendered many mitigated many clinical dilemmas we once had.  However, do remember it has limitations - there is many things it cannot do; and, most importantly, it is only as good as its wielder.
