Peripheral Venous Access

Major Objectives and Sub-Content:

1. What is it?

2.  Anatomical Considerations

3.  Real Time IV Access

4.  PEARLS
Key Message:

Trace along the main veins branches to help you find the small tributary superficial veins for cannulation.

The "ideal" vein to cannulate is one that is at a Depth 0.4-1.4cm with a Diameter >0.3cm.  Of course, an complementary Angiocath will improve successful cannulation rates.
