Lung Parenchyma - What is it

What is it?
1.  What is Lung PoCUS?

It refers to the sonographic assessment of the lung PARENCHYMA.  Given air scatters US waves, it was  once thought sonographic evaluation of the lung parenchyma will be futile.

However, Dr. Daniel Litchtenstein et al. discovered that there are valuable information to be derived from Lung US.  He correlated the sonographic features of the selected cohort of intensive care patients with CXR and clinical features.
These are the four parenchyma sonographic images that were originally published in the article.

The utility of parenchyma sonography hinges on the VPPI and interpretation of the artifacts that are generated at this interface.

We will further explore each of these individual signs, and more, in this module.
