Competencies

In this section, we shall outline the PoCUS Competency Expectations for Internal Medicine - Core and Fellowship.

On October 29, 2016 at the Canadian Society of Internal Medicine Conference in Montreal, 40 designated faculty leads for Point of Care Ultrasound from all Internal Medicine training programs across Canada participated in the inaugural Canadian Internal Medicine Ultrasound Society (CIMUS) meeting.

The group developed the first Canadian consensus-based point of care ultrasound curriculum of Internal Medicine:

Applications for Core Internal Medicine Trainees (PGY 1-3):

  • Abdominal: Intra-abdominal Free Fluid/Ascites
  • Cardiac: Inferior Vena Cava
  • Thoracic: B-Lines, Pleural Effusion
  • Procedural: Central Venous Catheterization, Paracentesis, Thoracentesis
Applications for General Internal Medicine Fellows (PGY 4-5):
